wound up bowling in a league that they have up there . working on the release and looking at some ball reactions with the new release. it is obviously a shinny ball night. looked at the gamebreaker and rival during practice but settled on the paradim to start with swinging it a little 280 nice reaction out of it ....second game put it away cause I'm not learning anything throwing strikes like that . ball change tried the rival but it was a little touchy tried the gamebreaker but same thing or worse. went to the locker and got out the action and played a little straighter ok reaction but still not what I wanted 193 ... then looked at the AMF orbit extreme a ball I picked up used and drilled to use on toasted lanes and I liked what it gave me 254 with a couple of bad pitches in there . over all I was pleased with the practice. once again the film really made me make changes that are going to pay off both physically and in lane play
camp good bowling some better
well we had our 5th bowling camp and I feel it went over very well. we had 31 student bowlers and things went just as we expected....or as close as we should have expected. it seems every year the kids are getting younger and with that a different developmental approach to the camp. we spent three days on arm swing and walking with most of the kids because thats what they needed. fortunately we have a great group of coaches who were able to adapt to this. anyway another great camp they all improved and we will get a lot of feed back over the next few weeks about the next milestone in their games I am sure.
now on to my game, I have been working on straightening my wrist out after a lifetime of loading up with it. doing much better at reading the lanes with the added benefit of the ball rolling through the pocket like a mac truck and I get to move back right a little which in my old age has become an issue (lower ball speed compared to the rev rate (note to self ....the free arm swing can really free up with the wrist position as I don't have to hit it as hard to get the ball to turn the corner, it is rolling around the corner so changing balls becomes easier as there is a bigger difference between the ball reactions)
oh well , be good, bowl well and stay cool it's going to be a hot summer
video love it or not
The one thing everyone should do if it becomes available to you is to video your approach and arm swing and release. But not if you don't want to know the truth about your game. I did this a couple weeks ago and found out that I have to correct a few things so that I can keep bowling. You see as I get older I have these pains, we all do. The thing is that I am inflicting my pains on myself with a stupid (there is no other word for it) hand position. In an effort to get more revs on the ball I actually have been working to hard and creating other problems. And it's compounded by the fact that I am supposed to be a coach. As soon as I saw it, it was like Lee you idiot! So now I have to repair myself (with the assistance of a coach since you should never try to coach yourself) the thing is figuring out how to hit the pocket right with a new release is frustrating... I can hit it but I am use to swinging the ball now I am trying to roll it early off my hand (which I preach to my kids) and reading the break point is really different. so pray for me, my summer league is being affected by all of this, it started at 220 and I'm down to 205 and free fall looks to continue with 4 game sets of 766,779,789 (to put things in perspective out of 108 bowlers 70 are 200 plus and 40 are 210 plus with 15 at 230 + high average 252 to say the least we are on the bottom with my declining average the primary reason)
I'm back for a visit
ok once again long time no blog but I promise I have been busy. and this summer does nor lok to let up at all. the bowling has been fun to watch as I have been struggling with pain in the arm, wrist, hand and lower back. but enough about me lets get on with the team. to start yes we won the state championship and I am very proud of the team. we went 82 and 2 for the season we won the conference tournament with out even going past two games (they are best out of three) highest qualifying score from all conferences then blew through a 27 team feild in the state qualifing 1st 80 pins higher than 2nd place. we again beat every other team averaging 217 in the baker matches. the team had 6 bowlers average 200 or better and put two on the all conference team(in all honesty there should have been 4)
this sounds like bragging I know but this was just that good a team and I use that term correctly even though I didn't think they would get there(becoming a team) for a while. but they finally put team first and started believing in one another. you can see the last half of the state final on youtube just look up trinity state finals we are the team in green not the best but it is what it is.
on to the boy wonder he anchored the state team not that they needed him games were over before we got to him most of the time. made the ky all stars, won a spot to JOG in detroit, won a spot to las vegas for teen masters. along with the junior masters and the Ky open makes this one busy summer (and expensive)
i'll try to keep up with the activities of the boy wonder(ha ha ) just say a few prayers for us the junior seen is very challenging.
855 is unbelievable
ok lets set the record straight it wasn't me. I didn't do it. not even close...but.
so school is bowling again and I'm coaching the team again this year and I know I always say it but this year we might be more talented than ever before. sort of anyway. last year we were deeper but the first 5 this year are really good all will probably bowl in college. two weeks in to the season and we are not looking at losing even a game not to mention a match. in the school system we are in we have 4 bowlers bowl a game and then drop the low score. we dropped a 234 the first week and a 201 this week. now the 234 was at the easy house and the 201 was at the hard one, I thought that was significant. any was we have 5 kids averaging from 206 to 235. once again it will become a problem managing the fragile ego's that bowlers seem to have.
now on to the really cool stuff. my son went off a couple saturdays ago. in his youth league he started throwing strikes and not much else. front nine first game got soft on the first pitch in the tenth (nerves) left the 2,4,5 picked it up then threw the next 22 in a row got tapped 7 pin picked it up then got tapped again the series was 277,300,278 for a impressive 855 series. WOW is all I can say the front 9 in each game. not bad for the south paw.
my bowling has not been so good lately but I believe I've worked out some equipment issues that should help open the lanes for me
to all my friends I must apologize for not keeping in touch , I have been busy but I'll try
be good and take care
