ok the second week of bowling camp was just like the first except the kids were older. it's amazing how the first day the kids come in all full of themselves and then we break them down, ease up there swings give them something to think about when they throw the ball(i mean roll the ball). then day two comes and they really make progress. every time we do this the second day is the day when they make the most progress. then they work on it for a couple days and by the end of the camp the averages are up 20-25 pins a camper.(joe keeps all the stats just like for the high school team he's real nice to have around)
well I bowled in competition this summer for the first time last week and then again tonight. i have a real hard time getting my thumb right and I keep dropping the ball off my hand at the most inopportune time like the tenth frame on a 6 bagger urgh twice tonight and it cost me pins that I really wanted. oh well I guess that's what I get for not keeping tape in the bag (and loosing the weight ).
ok so I took my son to a tourney last week end on the jog pattern from last year, brutal. he struggled a lot to say the least. then came home and started rolling the ball again when he does it right it's real special he just is so strong he tries to do it all with his strengh and no brains and we all know what that leads to. well two weeks from now he'll be at jog and we'll see if all this practice is going to pay off. he is still very young.
ok the first bowling camp is over only one more week to go. the first week id the little ones 4th to 7th grade kids with a few others mixed in for chits and giggles. boy they came in monday in sorry shape some couldn't throw the ball half way down the lane. so tuesday we were ready for them we worked on the 4 step approach, every coach all day and it made a huge difference. so by the end of the week all campers were at least 20 pins higher than when we got started.
we had a few competitions that were alot of fun,the girls bowled a baker game against the boys and kicked there butts then we took the campers and had them bowl the coaches and they kicked our butts too (we bowled with the opposite hand) alot of fun there i tell you.
so we had a special guest on friday, two time pba champ mike wolfe came and spoke to the kids it was great he was so patient with the questions. a true ambassador for the sport and just a great guy. the kids loved him alot and him taking the time to talk to them well I could go on and on.
well next week the bigger kids different challenges with them
this is our 5th year of putting on the camp and even though it takes a chunk out of the summer it is very rewarding especially when years latter you see the kids that came through the camp 3-4 years ago just dominate our local competitions.
oh yea the new bowling system i've been working on is working very well I am achieving late revs and the ball is just blowing up racks even at 15 mph its amazing i can't miss my mark either averaging about 230 when I practice this summer. not one game under duce which makes me feel sad for those who I am going to kill in the fall
ok so the wayback league was a bust I don't know maybe taking some time off was too much for everyone. oh well time to set up a weekly practice. have to keep the kinks out. we had the BVL 9-pin no tap fund raiser. we did ok raised 2g for the bvl and we will be sending 4 carpeted bowling lanes to active duty in the conflict areas. I think everyone has a good time it sure wore me out. the rest of the summer is going along like normal working my butt off and trying to get ready for bowling camp in a couple weeks. we've been doing this camp for 4 years and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger I hope we have enough help this year we already have 30 kids signed up before camp started which is about 25 more than last year. bowling camp is a rough 2 weeks for me trying to keep up with work and camp oooh. well I had my best round of golf last weekend and then went fishing with my son over night. that was fun except for hang out with all the drunks at the lake(not my thing) we caught a few then came home for a cook out and cornhole. wore me out but I had a good time have to get back to work so I can rest.
well, we did it ...won the league this year.... just a bunch of guys trying to have fun and we slipped up a won the league. funny how we still do that every couple years, hey and we are just average guys. stepped it up though for the championship night (went out and practiced on sat...18 games to work out a timing issue ....me<----- I was high on the pair... oh yea ) ok enough gloating just had to get it out ....... new league over the summer called the quartermasters wayback league. just a group of bowlers in the city and when you are in the same house with one a quarter go to high game scratch. and then there is a lot of teasing and goading going on also. great fun . well now we are going to get together and have a singles league ...just ten weeks in the summer.. classic antics are yet to come. the wayback part is you have to have a sponsor from a business that is no longer in business old sponsors coming out of the woodwork. so I'm offering my back as a billboard all it cost you is a shirt with your old businesses name on it 2xl for the big guy let me know if you want me to represent you (I'll act very professional..^^)
ok so I went to the usbc convention last week and listened to all the talk about branding usbc. not really what I had in mind, but it is what it is. so garry and I bump in to the BVL booth and now that is something I can sink my teeth into. so for those who know me may 26 at the AMF rose bowl 7 pm. that's the Saturday night of memorial day weekend. no-tap 20.00 bucks for the BVL. what ? what is the BVL? well it's the bowlers to veterans link. what it is , we will raise money for our troops both serving and veterans. and we will send a set of bowling lanes to the men and women serving their country so they can be boys and girls for a while . you know they get bored when they are not on duty and when they are on it is just intense . so we are trying to send them these carpeted bowling lanes so they can work it out at night or in the mess hall trying to cool down in the 125 heat they are in every day. so we are having a no -tap to raise some money to send these lanes to troops stationed hopefully in aff or iraq. here's the catch if you bowl and know someone over there your name goes in to a hat and we might be sending it to your guy or gal. thats right we will affect one of our own from Louisville or the surrounding area. so if you are in the area come on up or call the center and reserve a lane we plan to have a lot of fun.
